1:35 scale
Feature Article by Bill Curtis
As I had proposed a group build of an unmade kit of any scale, from the stash with little or no detailing. I looked in the attic and found this kit which had been put to one side due to having no tracks and a few other parts missing. The kit having come to me in this condition, I decided it was time to give it the light of day and see what could be done with it.
This vehicle was the result of the need for close support in urban warfare which would give the crew protection while operating the weapon. This was a development of using the 15cm howitzer on various chassis and the success of the Pz III variant led to the development of the Brummbar.
A total of 24 were built of which 12 were lost in the fighting at Stalingrad and the others were used on the Southern Front of the Eastern Front.
The Instruction sheet is of the line drawing style and from looking at the build sequence I will be following it. Well Perhaps.
I started with the drive and idler wheels, followed by the main running gear wheels.
Stage 2 was then followed the swinging arms and suspension units.
The wheels were not fixed in place, to make painting easier, but stage 4 the rear plate was done as per instructions.
Step 5 is the track assembly but this will be left till later. Ooops did I say I would keep to the sequence.
Step six the gun cradle was then assembled followed by the barrel and slider. These were then joined. The glacis plate was glued into position.
