This is an extraordinary book about the making of a quite extraordinary scale metal model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I. Indeed, if you live in the UK or have visited the UK, you may well have also visited the Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon where you will see David’s model proudly displayed in the entrance hall.
All you can say about the model is, simply – Wow! Seemingly accurate down to the last rivet, David’s model is a miniature masterpiece or engineering and model-making. This book traces the origins and full story of how he crafted his Spitfire Mk.I in 1:5 scale. Much of how he created this thing of beauty is covered in some detail and if you are a scale modeller, the reference opportunities the title also offers is considerable.
This book is a classic coffee table title, one that you can and will pick up time and again, each time spotting something new to marvel at.
I have deliberately only included a few photos of the inside of this book (as I don’t want to detract from possible sales) and you can see from these just what great quality production is on offer. Do check the link at the top of this review – more is available to see there.
One of the interesting sections comes right at the back where David shows some of his other models – simply stunning, and I don’t use that word lightly.
if you are interested in the Spitfire, have a good friend or relative who is, then buy this book – they (and you) will treasure it for years to come.
