If it isn’t already obvious, I am a great fan of continental shows and Euro Model Expo 2011 has only served to reinforce that very favourable view. I recognise that it may seem quite an effort to venture hundreds of miles for a one day event but if you were to spread the cost and driving amongst a car full of friends the whole experience can be had for little more than the cost of travelling the length of the UK. In Europe, you’ll see some alternative approaches to scale modelling and model shows, and you can expect to be made very welcome wherever you go. If you’re worried about the language barrier, don’t be, but one approach to getting started would be to make your first show one in the Netherlands or Northern Belgium, where the locals speak better English that many English people! I guarantee that you’ll have a great time wherever you choose to go and you’ll return a more rounded modeller and enlightened European.
The next show in my diary will be another first for me as Geoff and I attend the much lauded Model Show Brno in the Czech Republic and I’ll post a report on that event in the second half of June.
