Although I didn’t use the brass deck the way Eduard intended I did simply glue it to the plastic deck with Cyano as well as all the side panels. It’s a fairly difficult job again because of size and it does need clamping carefully during the process. Once fixed and dry (at least 24 hours) I polished the brass and all the plastic with MDC sanding sticks to ensure all the seams were sealed and ready for additional work before priming.
My next job was on the stern. The kit comes with a very good representation of the fixed cast prop guards. In reality these created additional noise that would make detection by enemy sonar much easier so they were removed at the start of the war. I cut off, filled and sanded the raised areas on the hull where the guard would be fixed as later I would be using the temporary steel prop guards used in port and beautifully supplied by White Ensign Models.
With all this work I added the detail parts except the props and prop shafts and sprayed the hull with Halfords Primer.
While all this is drying I started to assemble the conning tower and fitted the lovely Eduard brass which really does make a difference. This too is polished ready for priming later.
