Summary
WEM has provided a truly sublime kit. With care it can be assembled into a real show stopper. Even a tyro like me can produce something acceptable. That says it all really about how good this kit is.
Yes I think the white metal is awful and lets the kit and WEM down and I can’t recommend enough that WEM needs to look at this. The instructions do let the kit down a little especially the rail fitting and the rigging.
Overall though this is a wonderful piece of model engineering and I cannot recommend it enough. It was my first ever attempt at 1:350th scale and because of it the result to me is just about acceptable. The important thing is though, it won’t be my last 1:350th scale kit and I think this most of all speaks volumes about how good a kit this is.
I think the model choice was inspirational and it deserves success. It seems expensive but the hours it gives the modeller on a pounds per minute basis its standard price and therefore it’s well worth the money.
This is the first WEM model I have built – it will not be my last. Dave and his team can be proud of this kit and I was proud to build it on behalf of SMN. If you’ve never had a go at a WEM model before do so; I can promise you that you will not be disappointed.
