Now you may well have seen these before and no, don’t worry, it’s not a case of déjà vu! Simply that when we first saw these excellent display bases they were in 1:72nd scale. This time we have a set of 1:48th scale sheets designed to enhance the presentation of your finished scale models. It is probably worth checking out that review in Here Now for a fuller review of these bases and all that I said on that occasion applies to these four. You’ll see from the images below that they came in very handy following the completion of my 1:48th Kinetic F-16I ‘Sufa’. There’s no doubt that the card bases will add greatly to show off your latest creation. They will stick very well to a hard wooden or base board with ordinary PVA white glue. I’ve done it several times now and it works very well. Just apply glue to the whole of the back leaving no gaps and add a supporting flat weight like a large book to keep the surfaces flat while drying and voila, job done.
Miliscale item 48-010-101 Taxiing: Item represents the taxiway upon which the IAF F-16s roll to and from the runway. It displays all the details of the original: white line upon which the aircraft rolls, the yellow line for the towing vehicle, the metal drainage grid, concrete cover with red edges and the ever present cracks and oil stains. The unique pattern of the expansion lines is captured as well. Approx. dimensions (theses may vary depending upon print versions): Length: 39 cm (15.35 inch); Width: 28 cm (11 inch).
Miliscale item 48-010-102 Runway 33: Item represents the concrete runway (yes, concrete – not asphalt) typical of IAF airbases throughout the 1970s, the 1973 Yom Kippur war included. It displays the concrete runway together with the typical large white numbers, skid marks and two side asphalt taxiways. IAF enthusiasts can use this sheet for their A-4, F-4, Mirage III, Nesher, Kfir, Super Mystere, Fouga Magister and many other types of the era. Less pedant modellers may wish to use it for other aircraft types, in other countries, as well. Approx. dimensions (these may vary depending upon print versions): Length: 39 cm (15.35 inch); Width: 28 cm (11 inch).
Miliscale item 48-010-103 Running In: Item represents the concrete surface used for the engine run-in process of the F-16. The yellow half circle represents the security area of the air intake, and the black rectangle with the centre large dot inside it is the anchorage point for the aircraft’s arrestor hook. Note that the arrestor hook is not fixed directly to the centre point, but rather to a lever arm protruding from it. As with our other prints, surface is properly weathered. Oil stains, cracks, drainage grid and red and white marks – all are captured in this attractive, one-of-a-kind print. Approx. dimensions (these may vary depending upon print versions): Length: 39 cm (15.35 inch); Width: 28 cm (11 inch).
Miliscale item 48-010-104 HAS: Item represents the concrete surface found inside IAF Hardened Aircraft Shelters for the F-16. Tone of concrete is darkened here, as the surface is never exposed to direct sunlight. The familiar yellow half circle marks the security area of the air intake, and the dotted white lines and solid white line are the paths of the main undercarriage and the nose wheel respectively. Approx. dimensions (these may vary depending upon print versions): Length: 39 cm (15.35 inch); Width: 28 cm (11 inch).
Verdict…
Highly recommended. No Israeli aircraft subject should be without one of these bases.
