Initial Assessment
I had missed this set when it first came out and, although I have a good selection of Vallejo paints, I decided to try this set and see what it was like.
This is only an in-box look at the set, as they will be used on some later builds in the magazine. The set comes in a sturdy box with the instructions on the rear. It contains 8 paints, in the eye dropper type container which are produced by Vallejo.
It comes in a clear plastic tray as follows:
- AK 003 Grey Primer
- AK 004 Dunkelgelb Shadow
- AK 005 Dunkelgelb Dark Base
- AK 006 Dunkelgelb Base
- AK 007 Dunkelgelb Light Base
- AK 008 Dunkelgelb High Light
- AK 009 Dunkelgelb Shine
- AK 010 Satin Varnish
Accuracy
The paints AK 004 to 009 are, to the best of my knowledge, new and produced to AK Interactive specification. They are made by Vallejo to the same consistency as the Model Air type paint.
Quality
I have not used them yet, but being manufactured by Vallejo for AK and designed by Mig Jimenez, I have no doubts they will either spray well straight from the eye dropper, or can be thinned as to your own preference. These should mix well with the Vallejo range and of course will intermix within the set which will give a myriad of shades of Dunkelgelb.
Instructions
As stated earlier, the instructions are on the back of the box in pictorial form and show each paint at the relevant stage of painting. This may be a little vague to modellers new to this method, but by looking on AK’s website, a further explanation can be found of how to apply the paint to get the desired effect for the modulation.
Conclusion
I wondered if this was going to be an unnecessary purchase, but I don’t think so as the time saved on mixing different shades will be well worth the asking price. The primer looks to be the standard Vallejo grey and will spray to give a nice even coat.
Very Highly Recommended.
