In-box review with Geoff Coughlin (April 2019)
Until now, we’ve really only had the ageing Airfix kit and, more recently the Italeri Short Sunderland kits in 1:72 scale. The venerable old Airfix kit has a good shape and the raised rivet detail is easy to ‘resolve’ (see my Airfix Bristol Superfreighter full video build article in SMN). Fit and detail are issues with the Airfix kit and Italeri, well, sorry a huge missed opportunity there by creating a kit that has massively over-sized panel line detail, so much so that without a lot of work, it’s a no-go, for me at least.
And now…
Take a look at what’s on offer from Special Hobby with this new-tool release…
And here’s a close look at the instruction book…
A full build will follow in SMN just as soon as I can schedule it in, so keep an eye on What’s New for that :)
Here’s my summary…

There is a Sandringham, the civilianised Sunderland V at Solent Sky Museum in Southampton. It is open so you can view the interior. There are lots of pics available on Internet if you google it.
