Wings – these are pretty big as you’d expect. The flaps are intended to be moveable although from what I remember when someone built this model years back this feature may be a bit gimmicky – my plan will be to probably have the flaps dropped for added interest – we’ll see. Some nice touches are included like a detailed fuel refuelling point on the front of the port side undercarriage sponson and crew access latter bay.
Cockpit – this is pretty well detailed and will make up perfectly well from the box – the main issue for me is the lack of relief on the main side consoles that gives any resin replacements a huge edge over what’s in the box. If you were lucky enough to get hold of one of those great resin Cutting Edge cockpit sets (as I did) lucky you. Check out the excellent Scalemates modelling info site for a good list of what’s available for this kit – inside and out.
Side wall detail is provided as well as a good representation of the ACES II ejection seat.
The main instrument panel is designed to have the clear acetate sheet with the goals marked on it attached to the back of the plastic main panel with pre-drilled holes – works pretty well usually and should look good.
Engine bays and engines – these are impressive because you get two fully detailed resin engines that can be included. Metal retaining arms are supplied so the idea is you can pose the bays with panels open or closed.
Undercarriage – impressive again as the units are supplied as white metal parts – necessary given the size of this model! They are detailed but lack the very prominent hydraulic lines that are such a feature of the type, so you’ll need to add these.
Wheel bays – these are basic and if having detailed wheel bays is important to you then get out your ‘mini-spares box’ and add whatever you want as there’s not much in there.
