Review by Geoff Coughlin (May 2013)
The subject
At the time of writing, who would have thought it? A 1:32 B-17G Flying Fortress is on the way and we will be one of the first to have it (it was worth the investment – well you have to don’t you? It is just too significant a project to ignore if you are a model mag like ours – that’s my excuse ☺). We will build it and start bringing it to you in the usual instalments just as soon as it arrives. Back to this decal sheet…
Quality
The quality of the sheet looks to be superb – very like a Microscale sheet in terms of look and feel and they are about as good as it gets but of course the proof of the pudding will be in the eating when Les who is going to build the beasty when it arrives gets to that stage. Colour saturation and register are all spot on so all bodes well.
Featured aircraft
One B-17 F and one ‘G’ model are included – the great thing is that ‘A Bit O’ Lace’ is included, a clear favourite with Les (and me) and I believe is featured in the new kit, but, we wait with held breath to see what the quality of the decals in the kit will be after the lamentable offering in their first B-25 Mitchell release.
So, what you get on this great Kits-World sheet are:
- Boeing B-17F ‘My Devotion’ 510th Squadron 351st Bomb Group – Olive Drab over Medium Grey
- Boeing B-17G ‘A Bit O’ Lace’, 709th Squadron 447th Bomb Group – natural metal overall with yellow and Olive Drab fin and green fuselage bands.
Use in conjunction with set KW132047 – B25 Mitchell General Stencilling, Stars and Bars
The great thing about this second set is that it can be used in conjunction with KW132046, this time you get that essential stencilling, so obvious in this large scale and also the main Stars and Bars. Perhaps quite an expensive option and we haven’t even seen the kit decals yet, but after the B-25 experience – well, I can’t afford to take the chance!
Highly recommended
