Packaging and instructions
We have already reviewed Woodgrain decals from this manufacturer and you’ll find them here. This new set provides additional options offering a finer Woodgrain veneer that you can cut up into sections and apply to your models. We’ve waited a while to have the opportunity to try the decals out and as you can see, Dave C has done a superb job using them on one of his current projects, the Wingnut Wings Albatros D.Va
2 sheets of decal are included in the pack with various grains of fine Woodgrain veneer.
The whole point of the sheets is to help you create a realistic wood grain effect on your completed model. You may well have seen how Les, Dave C and I to mention just 3 of the SMN review team create wood grain effect on small areas like WWI bi-plane instrument panels and propellers but achieving a highly realistic finish across the whole fuselage is something quite different. Certainly possible but how much more authentic and (hopefully) easier might it be to apply sections of decal that, together with the use of appropriate base colours, pre-shading and oils?
Some excellent advice in the way of detailed tutorials is provided on Uschi’s website and you are recommended to go there in the instructions – good advice. Also check out Dave C’s build of his WW Albatros D.Va currently in Build Now and then it will go to the Wingnut Wings page in Finished Now when complete.
Quality
The decal quality is good and you simply cut sections of decal pre-measured from masking tape and apply to your model.
Conclusions
Very impressive and highly recommended.
