Decals
Two decal sheets cover the aircraft and stencils on the larger sheet and the other covers stores etc.
Clear parts
The clear parts are well packaged and the canopy parts are beautifully clear and distortion free.
Metal undercarriage
The metal undercarriage leg inserts. The wheels fit to metal axles and it is the metal that attaches to the fuselage so a bit of epoxy may be needed but it should be a strong fit.
Photo etch
The Photo Etch fret is not huge but it will provide some nice detail.
Instructions
The landscape book style instructions are very clear and, in places frighteningly similar to the Trumpeter set, check out the section on attaching the wing ends at the fold…. There are 20 pages taking you through the build in what, at first sight, looks logical.
Also included are colour inserts for the painting and decal positions. One is single-sided and covers the stores. The other is double-sided for the two scheme options. Colour callouts are for Mr Hobby, Vallejo, Model Master, Tamiya and Humbrol paints.
US Navy, VA-115 “Eagles”, USS Midway, A-6A, 07 /NF (BuNo. 155715)
or, as in the Trumpeter kit I believe
US Navy, VA-35 ‘Black Panthers’, CVW-9, USS Enterprise, A-6A, 10 /NG(BuNo.152940)
So there are differences between this and the 1:32. I don’t think that it falls short in detail although, inevitably, the part count is less and, obviously, it is smaller. Time will tell and when I come to build this, I will be very much aware that I will be walking in the footsteps of Les and his Trumpeter build which is a tad daunting to say the least!
I have high hopes for this kit, just hope I can live up to it.
