Initial assessment
The kit comes in a cardboard box with a picture of the finished item on the lid and is accompanied by a small picture of the block used in the construction as well as the title company logo and the ref number. I have taken some time looking at this kit and initially thoughts were a little negative as to the construction and materials used but after putting it down and coming back to it with new eyes I have changed my opinion.
The contents of the box is as follows:
- One large bag of building blocks
- 4 small bags of blocks all with a ref number on the bag
- One bag of blocks and ridge tiles
- Three bags of various size tile again with the ref number on the bag
- One bag of various bits
- Four roofing sections in moulded plastic
- Three sheets of plastic card
- One bag of various sizes of cut plastic card
- One set of A4 instruction sheets comprising seven double sided pages
- A further three sheets with colour pictures and drawings of the building with useful advice.
This is rather a full box of parts. Most modellers will have the required items to complete or will be available either from the local hobby store, craft outlet or on line. These items are tube glue Mr surfacer 500 or some other product to make the stucco finish.
Accuracy
As far as my building knowledge goes having refurbished a few houses, the kit looks good and when built should look the part.
Quality
The quality of this kit is good with no flash and care should be taken not to mix the parts during construction.
Instructions
These start with some general instructions as to how to use the parts. Next is a full list of the various parts over two pages. This is then followed by the construction of the walls over three pages with each row of bricks denoted in the clear drawings.
Next comes the end wall top and chimney and then the stove / fireplace. Lastly comes the roof and tiles.
Following the second set of instructions one will add the roof, tiles and living quarters roof.
Conclusions
If one is careful and build to the instructions this should come out as a really good representation of a ruined French Farmhouse. The actual idea behind this kit is very different from other building kits and it should be possible to change the kit around to fit your own spec without to much trouble.
I look forward to completing this in the future and will then add to the review and recommend it wholeheartedly from an in-box review point of view.
Very highly recommended
Bill C.
