The 2009 IPMS Scale ModelWorld at Telford provided many opportunities for the thousands of scale modellers and other visitors that attended. All the usual kits, accessories and tools but there, amongst all the usual interesting vendors was Matthew John. His smart stand proved to be a real gem in the crown – read on…
This excellent company supply all manners of precision metal tubing, rod, plate, strip and other fabricated shapes in many useful configurations. The products are simply stunning when you start to look at what is actually on offer. Tubing down to such small size – less than 1mm that you can hardly make out the item is a tube at all. Then, unbelievably a small section of rod was demonstrated passing into and out of the microscopic tubing! Amazing but true. Just think of all the uses you can put this little lot too: aerials for AFVs, ships and aircraft, pitot heads on the leading edges of wings – the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 comes to mind, plus others, gun barrels for small scale subjects…the list is as endless as your imagination.
As you’ve probably guessed by now, I was rather impressed? And that takes a lot these days, after all, your Editor has been around for some time now…
We are going to find no end of uses for these products and we’ll be incorporating many in the In-Progress Reviews (IPRs) that you’ll see on these pages of the magazine over the coming months. The pick of the bunch for me just has to be the micro tubing that ranges down to such small scales – making their appeal extremely broad to all scale modellers – whatever their chosen scale.
