Whilst walking around the Scale Modelworld I came across the stand of Treemendus and as I am always looking for ways of reproducing the natural world thought I’d have a look.
The stand had some interesting displays of the products and I bought some to use with my next project. Well time has moved on and other things have unfortunately come between me and this work but now a new year and we are moving forward with it.
As for the products I bought the autumn leaves, forest litter, canopy and the bark powder.
The leaves look to be a natural product of which I think is Silver Birch seeds and look very convincing. (For the last two years I have said I will go and collect some but have not done so, so thanks guys you saved me a job there) These can be used to populate a tree, used on the ground for fallen leaves or used to represent ivy on a wall or clinging to a tree trunk.
The second product is a bag containing an assortment of small twigs and various bits to represent the sort of thing found on a forest floor or under hedges, I think this will look very natural when used in its intended role.
The bark powder comes in a reseal able bag, as do all the products I bought, is a grey colour and is to be mixed with the scenic glue which is then painted on the tree armature. The web site info says it will cover two 12” trees or four 6” trees.
The last item is plaited strands of synthetic hair of approximately 6” length to spread over the tree armature to make the canopy of the tree. This is teased out to the shape required after being cut to approx size and then sprayed with hair spay and then sprinkled with leaves. It can be used to make tree canopies as well as dense ground cover.
The company has a good range of products including Tree kits, scenic kit, long grass, earth powder, as well as several other items.
On the web site are instructions as to how to use the tree and scenic kits with a full list of products. There is also a gallery of the items used with settings for armour, figures and railway to give some ideas of usage.
I am looking forward to using all the products I bought as I think they will add to the armoury of items the modeller has to replicate the natural world. A small point is that the packets have no labelling to say what is inside. This may be OK for the leaves and other such items but as there are three sorts of powders this may be confusing to the user.
Having said that it’s a small nip pick and I highly recommend these products as I can see them being very useful and should look the part when used.
