Starting with the open bridge assembly kit part D104 and C113 work commenced with the laying down of 1mm wide thin strips of plastic strip to represent the wooden planking that isn’t duplicated on the kit part or put in the Eduard sets.
The planks have to be laid carefully in line with each running from front to back of part D104 cutting in the raised compass platform and 20mm Oerlikon gun bases. After leaving to dry and any light trimming the next phase was attaching the Eduard replacement railings and bulwarks around the outside edge of part and around compass platform.
The railings on this section on the actual ship were covered in canvas and to represent this I measured and cut individual sections of plain paper and attached them to railings using PVA glue. The paper was ordinary plain printer paper, think it was Tesco’s cheaper brand, it doesn’t matter as long has its plain paper. Once dry the other components were attached to railing sections including blast mattress, life rings and various box structures.
The Radar assembly was next starting with the base to blend in with railings on bridge. With this in place the remaining parts were built up and attached, most of this is replaced by parts in Eduard sets but I found a problem with mine. I used the platform parts and railings but NOT the radar lantern framework as when assembled it was slightly too big and the roof of the structure simply fell through as you use the kit part E151. I simply used the kit part for this area which is clear part H431. His area is quite small and next to impossible to see clearly the antennae of the radar inside.
