Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black is a good base over the grey primer (XF-19 Sky Grey). I worked the black more into the crevices and angles to help start creating the pre-shading effect.
So… what colour?
Thought long and hard about this and I’ve decided that various tones of green iswhat I’m after – remember the Klingon warships? They look really menacing and this is the king of thing I’m after.
Lots of different Tamiya greens to choose from and I think the base colour using J.N. Green (XF-11) works well and then you can add whatever you like to add highlights by slightly lightening the base colour or just use a complimentary slightly lighter green.
You could try one of the great sets from Mig at AMMO of Mig Jimenez instead – Paul at Modelling Tools in the UK gave me these and they are excellent – currently being applied to another Sci-Fi project on its way to SMN. Check out the Modelling Tools website for anything and everything you need to build, paint and weather your scale models.
