3 VIDEO DEMOS
Quick intro from Geoff…
Who would have thought – a machine to make your display base grass stand on end and help you create much more realistic-looking settings for your models. Well, such a machine is available, and this is only one of them – others exist too if you look and are often more expensive too.
A quick word of warning! – the following videos were shot at our local scale model club night and you’ll hear some banter for sure and so this whole piece is produced much more with a fly-on-the-wall-type approach – slightly tongue-in-cheek in places but Bill presses on regardless and shows just how useful and easy this bit of kit is to use.
What you’ll see in the videos…
Looking something like a juice blender or milkshake making machine Bill takes you through the process and options for adding realistic grass effects to your display bases using Flockit – the static grass applicator.
In Video 1, Bill talks about and shows you an option for applying grass and getting it to stand up without using Flockit and then goes on in Video 2 to demonstrate how to use Flockit.
Video 3 has some good advice and tips on adding ground rubble and stones to your base and other stuff like that – enjoy the ride!
You can see in the above photos that Bill has applied the techniques he shows here to create a great little story in his armour piece.
Without using Flockit…
You can see here that it’s possible to still create quite good looking grass effects using traditional methods, but… arguably not as quick or effective as using the Flockit machine.
Here are a few close-up photos showing the effect Bill has created using Flockit in just a quick demonstration. As he says, taking more time and building up the effects with shorter and longer grassed areas can create excellent results. As ever, practice makes perfect and so that’s the name of the game here, as with all scale modelling techniques and as you’ve seen, good results are possible very quickly.
Moving on…
And to close…
Good luck!
