The first stage on the instruction sheet shows the engine and gearbox being built. There are two halves for the engine, which also has the gearbox moulded into these parts and they were put together then liquid cement was run around the joint and held together with a string clip.
Parts that were to be painted the same colour were added, the crankcase, cylinder head, gearbox end panel were fitted before it was primed and given a couple of coats of Testor’s Steel enamel.
The end panel that the cooling fan is moulded into was painted Testor’s Steel, but wasn’t fixed onto the engine at this point as I wanted to detail it further before fixing it into place.
The chassis was painted body colour then masked up to paint the centre part satin black. Once the chassis had dried the front suspension and built up engine could be fitted.
The inner wings and front bulkhead are supplied as three separate parts, but I wanted to paint them as one unit, not only making for a cleaner build, fixing them together using liquid cement before they were painted also made for a stronger joint. They were held in place on the chassis using spring clips and a few drops of liquid cement and once dry, they were removed from the chassis and more liquid cement was added.
Then the complete assembly is primed and painted body colour and, once dry, it was fixed to the chassis using 5 minute epoxy and held in place with a couple of spring clips.
The engine bay was finished by fitting the brake master cylinder, washer bottle, heater ducting, the exhaust manifold, fuel tank and battery.
