“One of the best shows in recent years” I heard two regulars proclaim and I have to agree. Plenty of variety in the air and on the ground and with good weekend weather too, a great day was had by all.
Take a tour through the following galleries of photos gathered at the event and you’ll see what I mean – a real treat whatever your interests.
In the air, some of the highlights for me definitely included the RAF Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows back to full strength after their tragedies – emotional indeed bringing a huge round of applause from the assembled crowd. Additionally the Swedish Historic Flight provided a rare and excellent opportunity to see Swedish types like the AJS 37 Viggen, J 29F Tunnan and SK 60E do their stuff and I hope we’ll see them again one day.
On the ground, you couldn’t miss the striking JAS 39C Gripen from 211 Tactical Squadron, Czech air Force – just look at those canards! Particularly welcome were some other exhibits like the Algerian Air Force C-130H Hercules – immaculate and great to see. PIC 21 You couldn’t miss the Belgian AF F-16 70 Years 349 Sqn either – what stunning blue artwork on the fin.
Some of the vehicles were great to see, like the fire tenders and fuellers and the 1941 Fordson War Office Type One Fire Tender caught my eye, not to mention some newer vehicles like the SA-8 Landroll AFV.
2014 will be a definite for SMN and we’ll bring you a show report once again following that event and you can keep up to date with what’s planned by checking out the official RAF Waddington Air Show website. I urge you to try and make 2014 a date in your diary – 5/6 July 2014, you won’t be disappointed ☺
